Real Hair Questions, Honest Answers

Thirty-five years of doing hair in New Port Richey means we’ve heard every question — usually while someone’s in the chair, coffee in hand. Here are the twelve we answer most, straight up: what things cost, what actually works in Florida humidity, and when the honest answer is “don’t.”

Asked by real clients, answered like a neighbor

No jargon, no upsell, no “it depends” without a real answer after it. If your question isn’t here, the fastest way to ask it is a text — a real person answers between clients.

How much does a haircut cost in New Port Richey?

Most haircuts at our salon start at $25 and up for women, men and kids — the exact price depends on your hair’s length and thickness, and we always quote before we start. Walk-ins are welcome Tuesday through Saturday, or text (727) 487-4475 and we’ll tell you the current wait.

How often should I get a haircut?

Every 4 to 6 weeks keeps a cut’s shape sharp. If you’re growing it out, stretch to 8 weeks and ask for a dusting — a tiny trim that removes split ends without taking off length. Regular trims really do prevent splits from traveling up the strand, which is what makes long hair look thin at the ends. More on our haircuts page.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes — we’ve taken walk-ins for 35 years and we’re not stopping. That said, a quick call or text first means we can tell you exactly how long the wait is, or hold a chair for you at a set time. However you show up, we’ll take care of you.

Balayage vs highlights — which is better?

Neither is better — they’re different tools. Highlights give precise, all-over brightness with a more structured grow-out. Balayage is hand-painted, so it grows out in a soft, lived-in line and needs fewer touch-ups. In Florida, where the sun adds natural brightness between visits, balayage is especially forgiving. Our color page breaks down both.

How much does balayage cost in New Port Richey?

At Classic Styles, color and balayage start at $60. The final price depends on your hair’s length, thickness and how much lightening your look needs — going from dark to platinum takes more time than a soft caramel melt. Text us a photo of your hair plus your inspiration and we’ll quote you before you book. Consults are always free.

Why does my hair color fade so fast in Florida?

Three Florida culprits: sun, chlorine and hard water. Wash in cool water, switch to a color-safe shampoo, and come in for a gloss or color refresh between full services — it takes about 20 minutes and costs a fraction of a full color. Pair it with a conditioning treatment and your color will hold dramatically longer.

How long does a perm last?

Usually 3 to 6 months, depending on your hair’s texture and how you care for it. The good news: modern perms are far gentler than the ’80s version people remember. Come in for a free consult and we’ll tell you honestly whether your hair is a good candidate — sometimes the right answer is a treatment first, and we’ll say so. Details on our perms page.

Can you perm color-treated hair?

Often yes — but it depends entirely on your hair’s condition and what color work you’ve had. Bleached or heavily highlighted hair needs extra caution, because perm solution and lightener stress the same bonds. This is one to never DIY: a ten-minute consult protects your hair and gets you an honest answer either way.

What does a deep conditioning treatment actually do?

It rebuilds the moisture and protein that Florida sun, salt and humidity strip out of the cuticle. The treatment sits for about 10 to 15 minutes under gentle heat, and afterward your hair holds a style for weeks instead of days. It’s the cheapest way to make every other service look better — from $20 with any cut or color. See our treatments page.

How do I stop frizz in Florida humidity?

Humidity only frizzes hair that’s dry and porous — moisture in the air sneaks into the shaft and swells it. The fix we do most is a humidity-shield conditioning treatment paired with the right cut for your natural texture. Text us a photo and we’ll tell you exactly what we’d do with your hair.

How do I get green out of my hair from the pool?

That green is copper from pool water binding to lightened or porous hair — it isn’t algae, and it isn’t permanent. A chelating treatment lifts the mineral deposit. For stubborn cases, come see us before trying anything stronger from the drugstore, which can push the color deeper instead of lifting it.

What’s the best haircut for humid weather?

One that works with your natural texture instead of fighting it: long layers, blunt bobs and shapes with built-in movement all air-dry beautifully here. At your consult we’ll show you what your hair does naturally before we pick up the scissors — then cut to make that work for you, not against it.
